So I have a list of Michel watermarks and I thought id write down the corresponding Scott numbers next to the Michel ones. However some of the ones I have down on the Michel sheet do not correspond to a Scott one. Ex. I see no Scott Wmk for Michel Hannover Wmk1 and I have a Michel 4Y but dont see a Scott corresponding one. The Michel list has 2Y which is a Scott 126, but I do not see the corresponding Scott for the Michel 2X.
So, the question, the Scott and Michel do not have a direct correlation?
You are not seeing a picture in Scott for the stamp Hannover #1. There is a description of the watermark in the catalog listing, albeit a rather nonspecific one. In any case, if you have the stamp, you'll see the watermark.
When Michel does catalog listings with X and Y it is usually a question of orientation. That is true of Germany Michel watermarks 2X and 2Y, one turned 90 degrees with respect to the other. Scott doesn't bother to differentiate by orientation.
I don't see why there has to be direct correlation between two catalogs produced by two different companies. What is a listed variety by one doesn't mean it is automatically in the other catalog.

What I was thinking was that if a watermark is covered by one printer and is a known watermark that it would be listed by another printer even though they use different call letters / numbering.
