In addition to the large and small Papua inscription, if you are using the Stanley Gibbons catalogue, you will also need to determine the difference between a horizontal and vertical rosette watermark. It took me a long time to figure out that the size of the rosette determines whether it is horizontal or vertical. Measure the rosette and the wider version is what counts. So a horizontal rosette will have the widest portion running horizontally.

In the image below the rosette would be considered vertical.

No. Sorry no plating, it took me 10 years just to figure out that the rosette was different widths. LOL

I did see that there is a book on this issue. It is for sale on Glen Stephens Stampboards site, and probably some others. It might include the plating information.

I don't run across too many of these because I buy them in collections and resort them for my web site. Papua is not one of the items you find as frequently as other countries - especially at a good price. But they are interesting to work on.

I have this 6d stamp with Large "Papua".It is perf.11. With wmk sideways (CrownA).I am not sure if this would go under SG.64..The heading indicates Small "Papua"...

Correction: it is a Small "Papua" Stamp blindness !
