We just received a great uncle's stamp collection and we have no idea what we are looking at. I need some assistance and based on what I've seen I am in the right place. So thank you in advance.
This is not the reissue. It is immediately recognizable as the original issue due to the lack of sharpness/crispness of the shading lines.
Multi-thousand dollar stamps are incredibly rare. For the 3c reissue, only about 1400 were issued with perhaps 20 or so known used and confirmed as genuine. There were around 350 million of the original 3c value issued - not rare at all. You need to ask yourself: should one really expect to find an incredibly rarity with those odds?
