I Found Two Unlisted Iran Stamps In A Collection I Just Acquired. #287 & 289?

In the Scott catalog it skips over these numbers (287 & 289), but these stamps were labeled as such by the previous collector I purchased this collection from.

Old Scott numbers for denominations that exist, but were never postally issued during the period. These are either outright forgeries (most commonly) or issues that were created years later only for sale to dealers or collectors.

Thank you codehappy. I got this collection from who seemed to be a very prolific dealer. I just bought a bunch of boxes packed with dealer stock index cards. I am actually considering buying a big wooden old style library index card cabinet. I am currently on the fence about converting the index cards to Vario stock sheets. The previous owner of this lot knew his stamps. You can really respect his attention to detail and alphabetical organization. It just seems dealer stock cards are so much faster.

I doubt these are forgeries, I sure they would have been labeled as such, or not even included. I can closer pictures with my microscope tomorrow. Thank you codehappy

Nano----Those are forgeries,Codehappy is correct we both give it 99.9% that those are later made stamps made especially for the stamp trade .

Just looking at the first row all:

NanoPhilatelic: suggest visiting this site to learn more. I have the 2002 catalogue, in paperback, which unfortunately is now sold out. Still, the hardback catalogue will be worth the expense if you expect to get into these old Persian issues.

NanoPhilatelic: like Floortrader says......... If you are an APS member, you could check into borrowing the Persiphila catalog I referenced above, as they probably have it. Or reviewing it on line, if it's been digitized. Or asking staff to copy the relevant pages and send to you. There is a modest fee for the staff time.

Regarding codehappy's comment about delisted stamps, one needs to be a little cautious. I have a couple Portuguese India stamps that were delisted in the late 1950s for reasons now lost in the "mists of time." But those stamps do exist.

Thank you for your reply. I will be purchasing a lifetime APS membership near the end of the year. You bring up a number of valid points, one being is that there are many different publications that specifically specialize in world wide stamps. The Scott catalog can only go so far pertaining to world wide stamps. Nothing against the Scott catalog, after all, they ARE the Federal Reserve System for the Philatelic society, respectfully.
There are so many great publications that I do not have access to. One example being, "Larry Lyons" book on US local stamps.
...and so the hunt continues.

I would like to think of all the unlisted (---) Scott values as being casualties of the, "Mists of Time" scenario.
I have question about a particular Iran stamp that has an unlisted vale. I will ask about it in a new topic tomorrow.
