My wife ran into the Bloomington, Indiana post office to pick mail up from our box and purchase a strip of 20 stamps for use on routine first class mail. Twenty minuets later she cam back to the car frustrated with the whole experience.

The window clerk clearly stated, "we do not have a forever stamp". He pulled out examples of what he had in his drawer and told her to pick the one she wanted. Yep, every one was marked "FOREVER / USA".

I sense that clerk won't be there forever..

I've also dealt with Post Office workers in similar experiences.

Usually stamp collectors know more than the USPS employee, even the counter clerks, about rates, regulations, etc. I've had postal clerks tell me outright whoppers, presumably just to get me away from their counter.

"Forever" and a day, the post office or subs will hire employees to sell you services without knowing what they are actually selling or what some stamp issues are even called.

We have the same in Canada, but are "P" stamps. Permananent, to be used into the future without any additional fees.

Has anyone tried using old nondenominated stamps that have a value of 37, 39 or 41 etc. cents on a package? The clerks usually don't know what to do even though they are supposed to have a key to those issues.

I agree Stamps1962. Most collectors do know more than the average USPS employee.

When I lived in Taiwan I sent a lot of parcels home to UK. I soon knew a great deal more than any of the counter clerks.
