To the left the small hole type perforation, it often looks a bit untidy.

To the right the large hole type perforation.

Did the small untidy perforation holes come before the large tidy perforation holes? Did the large holes eventually replace the small holes?

Hi Jogil, According to my NVPH Speciale Catalogus both perforations were used during the same time span, 1870-1890. But not at the same time.
If you'd like I can give the timeline for the variety of perforations

Peter

In generall:

Small hole perforations were used from 1870 to 1874. large hole perforations from 1875 till 1890.

The exception:

There was 1 time, 1884-1887 when the small hole perforation was used again. This was for both the Dutch Indies and Dutch stamps of that time, which were printed and perforated at he same printers in the Netherlands. Maybe for capacity reasons?
