1972 SG 311
Both these stamps feature the Woolmark brand - often touted as the world's most recognised textile brand. The Woolmark brand was launched in 1964. It is used to identify quality products made of pure new wool.
A competition to design an appropriate symbol to represent the brand was held in 1962. Francesco Sarroglia, an Italian graphic designer, won the competition. Forty-five years later, it is still being used.
The brand was developed by IWS, a company owned by Australian wool growers. The Woolmark logo featured on these two South African stamps, and on the 18c value in the New Zealand trade set of 1968.
Has anyone spotted this Australian logo on stamps issued by other nations?
I can't see it on any Australian stamps...
