stampvirgin - Busted! My ancestry does indeed include some Welsh folk.

Karakul is a breed of domestic sheep which originated in Central Asia. Some archaeological evidence points to Karakul sheep being raised there continuously since 1400 BC. Karakul sheep are a multi-purpose breed, kept for milking, meat, pelts, and wool. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Karakul lamb, designed by Russian artist Gherman Alexeyvich Komlev (1933-2000), printed by photogravure, and issued by Russia (USSR) on September 22, 1975 to publicize the 3rd International Symposium on astrakhan cloth production, held in Samarkand, September 22-27, Scott No. 4371, Zagorski No. 4455.
