Hi folks

I came across these in an old album that I picked up and got quite excited when I saw them, however, I have a feeling that they are fakes and was hoping for a little help to determine if my suspicions are correct. Thanks for any help in advance folks.

Not an expert, but the third 1d black definitely looks dubious.

Agree.
The left letter on the third penny black is too small. Doesn't match the B or R on any of the plates.
Also, the background is way too uniform, and the words "ONE PENNY" at the bottom are not crisp, as they would be on an engraved stamp.
The others look OK.
C.

Did you watermark them? They should have a small crown wmk. I'm no expert on GB but what looks like a watermark on the top left stamp looks pretty funky to me.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

The 2d blues look to be genuine. With the white lines at top and bottom, they are Scott# 4 and not #2, but still are nice finds.

The leftmost 1d black looks to be a forgery also, apparently not engraved, with a badly done "watermark" painted or scratched into the back.

Thanks for the replies folks - I agree the 1st and 3rd look off. You can see the watermark on the first from any angle and it doesn't show through to the other side. I struggled to find a watermark on the others but don't have any lighter fluid to check at the minute. Not sure if I should even use water fluid on the likes of these... All in all it was a bit of fun finding them in a row and it is still quite interesting to find forgeries. Learning all the time eh!

The middle Penny Black looks ok to me, other two are fakes. The Twopence Blues are genuine, but not of great value in that condition. As hy-brasil states, the blues are not the 1840 issues.

Agree with Peterh. Nice find!

It would be nice to track down the origins of the forgeries.
