I'm new at this and inherited a stamp collection

Probably not, but there is one potential suspect in there. It's the 3c Washington imperforate stamp in the corner with the Memphis Tennessee cancel. If you could do a scan of just that one piece we might be able to provide more info. That one is from the 1850s. All the rest are much later and common.

Image right side up. The postal history component of this stamp notwithstanding, it appears the cover fragment may be gradually imparting damage to the stamp?

Agree that the 3c Washington is the best of the bunch. It is a US #11 from the bottom row of a sheet of stamps. The extra margin makes it a bit more interesting and valuable. I suggest soaking it off the paper - the paper does nothing for this stamp, and it is in bad shape. You will still be able to tell it is a Memphis July 6 cancel. If you've never soaked a stamp, it isn't hard. Get a paper towel, a small stack of paper, and a stack of books or something else heavy and flat. Put the stamp and paper in a small dish of clean cool or lukewarm water for a few minutes. The paper and stamp will separate. Discard the paper and VERY gently grab the stamp with you fingers in the water and rub SUPER GENTLY to remove the gum. Then take it out of the water, put it on the paper towel long enough for most of the water to soak off the stamp, and then place the stamp between sheets of plain white paper. Put maybe 5 sheets under and 5 sheets on top and then put it on a flat surface and then place the books on top. Leave it for at least a day to dry. The stamp is worth maybe $20. The others are worth a little bit too - maybe another $10 for all of them. If you just want to sell them, you could put them all on ebay with a starting bid of $20. I'd leave them on the paper if you go that route.

The 210's (Brown Washington 2¢) look unused so depending on how much original gum is left those could get $10 - $25 each.

The 3c Washington is a #11A, not a #11, since it exhibits recut inner lines.

The scan is a bit blurry, but it appears to be from Plate 1-Late, for whatever that's worth.

Quite a few appear to have old dried tape residue on them. If they were mounted down with tape years ago, they are now worth nothing if the stamp paper was effected. At this stage the damage cannot be reversed. Soaking the 3c they told you about might set it free of this problem. Not sure about those two unused 2c Washingtons.
