Maybe someone knows this issue of the 2 cent stamp Washington! Only the profile is recognizable?
Maybe it was a proof print?

Yes, an embossed envelope is a type of postal stationery.
Collecting 'cut squares' is not as popular as it once was, the trend has moved towards collecting the entire envelope. As such, cut squares are not valued highly but US specialized catalogs do still publish cut squares values.

It depends on how rare such a cut is?
In Austria you do not get anything for a cut of a postal stationery anymore! But also in Austria there are rare goose things or very frequent occurring!
I attach two photos to it: one with the old emperor of Austria - very common
and one with the young emperor - rarely ...!
