A question for the Australian Postmark gurus...

Does anyone know anything about this cancellation?

MELBOURNE / L.C. ROOM dated 5 JE 12



I can't find it on the excellent Premier Postal Auctions post office reference.

L. C. Room was the Letter Carriers Room at the Melbourne GPO.

Apparently the letter-carriers had their own room and some sorting of mail took place.

Out of interest, here is a picture of a sorting room in Hobart GPO prior to the 'letter-carriers' taking the mail.

Interesting photograph of the Hobart GPO sorting room.

This CALLED - POSTMEN violet rubber handstamp may have possibly be applied in the very room pictured above?

On the face of it, that was surprising, "Tip Top" Bread was an Australian Staple on the brekky table, across Australia

Surprised from Wiki that they did not have a presence in Tasmania.

Plateflaw, could you post an illustration of the entire cover in your original post? Thanks.

Tip-Top: Not believing everything on Wiki, I wonder instead if there was more than one store in Hobart and the address was insufficient to determine which store, thus perhaps also the meaning of the added "unknown" marking. Clearly the carriers would have known of such a business in town.

All I have is the front (the postcard is on its way to me)... no other markings
