If the feedback system was working correctly, this would go down with a negative or neutral feedback; affording future buyers an awareness that this transaction had an error.
But in the warped world of
ebay, even a single negative or neutral feedback looms like some dark cloud. Ideally
ebay would not be running the feedback system, it would be administered by an independent 3rd party who is not vested in positive feedbacks. As long as
ebay is administrating the feedback system, they will continue to abuse it as a marketing tool with the primary intent of putting money in their own pockets. And as long as
ebay administrates the feedback system and promotes it as something to trust (while manipulating it themselves behind the scenes, allowing people to manipulate with multiple accounts, etc. ), there will be hapless soles who put stock in it thinking it is meaningful.
But since the feedback system is nothing more than a
ebay profit center contrivance, I agree with others who say do not leave a negative feedback. In fact my position is to avoid using it at all as my form personal protest. When I have a good transaction, I often send sellers a message thanking them and noting what I felt were the positive experiences. A intelligent seller who truly cares about customer cares service appreciate this kind of real feedback more than some silly 8 word tweet or star rating.
