Does anyone have any information about this stamp? I inherited it from my grandfathers collection, I am aware it has a slight tear on it but I don't know if that means it's worthless or not?, regardless if worth it would be nice to find out some information about this stamp.

Cheers,
Dan

Dan - "slight tear" is a bit of an understatement! In essence, to hit the £100 mark, a 1d black needs to have four clear margins and be undamaged. Remove big chunks for missing margins and other damage. What a damaged item might fetch will also be influenced by which plate it comes from, which can be determined by the nature of the letters at the base of the stamp. Here's a guide for T-B

Hi Dan,

The penny black as you may already know was the first adhesive postage stamp in the world, issued on 6 May 1840.

The Maltese cross cancellation was originally struck in red ink but was later changed to black.

The condition is very rough but may be worth something to a plating specialist.

Hope this helps
