Hello members, I found another interesting stamp from my grandfather's collection. Stamp with error, please advice. Thank you, Mara.

This stamp was printed back in the sixties, and a sheet was found in which the yellow was inverted. The Post Office Dept decided to reprint these errors and made them available to collectors. With the obvious goal to make the original error worthless. It did not work - the reprint can be distinguished from the original error. For more info go here: https://goscf.com/t/4938 . Your stamp is one of the reprints, Peter |

If the finder of this error would have kept it secret for longer than he did, he probably would have had a unique inverted color error pane. Sometimes not publishing the discovery of an error can lead to one finding more of the same error, but it also risks someone else finding the same error as well and getting credit for it instead. |

Leonard Sherman, the finder of the discovery sheet, did obtain a court injunction against the Post Office reprinting the stamp, but it came too late to stop production and sale of the inverts. At about the same time H. E. Harris was successful in stopping the Post Office from reprinting the Canal Zone 4c Thatcher Bridge error with missing bridge. |

Sorry, there is no premium for a used stamp. The purposely-made error (#1204) was available generally and can still be found even in postage lots. There is a modest premium for the FDC of #1204.
Now if cancelled with a postmark dated before the issue of the special printing/purposely-made error on November 16, 1962, you'd have the actual original error. But that would require certification, as a fake or backdated cancel could always be made. |

The Scott Specialized catalog notes three varieties of the invert, depending on the width and placement of the white area relative to the UN Building. Something to look out for if you so choose.
