A little Postal History.

This post office was established outside the South Gate in Halifax..See plague below...Established April 23-1754...The official Post Office was legally designated for official business in 1755.

The service was interrupted during the American Revolution...It was re-established March 1788...

Map below shows Post Office location on a map from late 1700 to early 1800.

The Post Office in the picture is not in Halifax CANADA but in Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK. (check the telephone number on the facade)

Pollux, what phone number? On a map from that time period? Probably not. That information appears incorrect. If not mistaken, that is the scale you have referenced.

The map is definetly the North West Arm of Halifax, adjacent Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada. Point Pleasant Park, the image of the Citadel Hill, Camp Hill, Camp Hill Cemetary, the Commons, and Robie Street runs through the center. And gee the dockyards have not moved either.

Several times a year I go up to Halifax to attend Eastern auctions, or go to the annual Novapex Exibition so I often drive or walk by these areas.

Robert, nice tidbit of information. Thanks.
Mike

Robert, now I see it. A bar and hotel in Ingleton, North Yorkshire. But it was a real post office at one time, just not in Halifax, N.S.

Robert , as a flyspecker as someone else noted, that detail should not have gotten by you. But it is all just too funny.
