Launching my Website...

I've created a website to showcase my U.S. stamp collection and am unveiling it to the world. I wanted to share with SCF first to get feedback on the design and content. The site displays pages from my collection as thumbnails, larger images of the pages when you click on them, and finally large images of individual stamps when you click on them (currently only commemoratives, but I am updating the images and image maps to eventually include my entire collection).

You can view the site at: www.scottsstampcollection.com

I generally update each page whenever I receive new stamps and will upload those to the website as often as possible and make sure that entries are made on the Updates page.

Some notes about my collection. I don't use Scott numbers to identify the stamps due to copyright/trademark restrictions. I may eventually add the numbers adjacent to each stamp to identify them for viewers of the pages, but need your feedback on whether it is needed or necessary.

Please keep in mind that the site is a work in progress what will grow not only as I add stamps to my collection, but also to include informative pages on other aspects of collecting. Some stamps may be (and probably are) incorrectly identified. I will seek certification on items that I believe need it. Any advice and constructive criticism on the site and/or content will be gratefully accepted and welcome. If you find an error or something that you disagree with, let me know.

The site is currently designed for web browsers only as I am working to make the site responsive for viewing on mobile devices and haven't finished the conversion. I began the site without thinking about the mobile aspect and am regretting the decision now. When the site is mobile-ready, I'll post it as a Technical Note on the Updates page.

Thanks,

Scott

I like it Scott. Great job so far!!

I really like the "triple play": Thumbnail, to full page, to individual stamp. Nice touch

I really like the format as a collection on album pages along with the easy navigation through the collection. The large/supersize images are an excellent feature.

You can make a SCF signature with the link to your site.

Scott,

What a fabulous website. I'm guessing you got the idea about the binder labels from SCF? They look great - both the collection and the website.

As an aside, I was a 27250 some twenty years before you. Went to Biloxi too!

Wow!!! If assembled in a digital book (flip or PDF), they would qualify as literature.

Beautiful work. Those Duck Stamps are hard to find unused.

I always admire homemade album pages without frills. Nice job.

The individual images of the commemoratives are great.

Are those Palo albums and slipcases?

Very nice presentation.

Would you consider a larger font size on your narrative. Something comparable to what we have on SCF here. Your small type was hard for my tired old eyes to read without zooming up to 150%

What a beautiful collection, a work of art, really. I love the way you have it organized. Wouldn't have chosen different color pages -- but it works beautifully. I've seen some of these pages in SCF threads, and I'm really pleased to see everything gathered in one place. I wouldn't change a thing. You certainly don't need Scott numbers for the commemoratives but you might consider them for some issues, such as W-F's. Well done!

I find this exceptionally well done. A minor point and a suggestion......

Did I see that you included the airmail special delivery stamps from the 1930s among the commemoratives instead of back of the book? If so, curious as to why.

If you get into adding some postal history, I'd suggest classic issues from US possessions, especially Pacific islands (I define "classic" as pre-World War II). This is the only part of my largely dormant US collection to which I'm currently making additions.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing!

Your Lighthouse volume labels are great. What did you print them on and how did you do them? Is gold foil involved?

Scott,
You might consider a second similar page for C105-108, the 40 cent olympics. The singles you show are C105-108, bullseye perf. The block is C105a-108a, line perf.

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments thus far. I would have responded sooner, but it's been difficult to get SCF to load...continued problems with the website I guess.

Jack Kelley - Great to see another ATCer here. Where were you stationed? I did ATC at Ramstein, Nellis, Andersen, and Hickam before retraining into computer programming.

MS - I use Lighthouse 3-ring binders with slipcases. They are reasonably affordable and extremely well made.

Climber Steve - The airmail special delivery stamps among the commemoratives were included as the Scott number for that issue is 770 and they were issued with other Farley's Follies stamps. I included a single of the same issue on the Airmail Special Delivery page as I thought it should be recognized as an airmail stamp as well.

Jbodo - The labels were inspired by Al Gore in this post:

John Becker - Thanks for the information, I wasn't aware of the bullseye and line perfs for that issue. I guess I'm adding another page to display both.

The Prexie booklet panes also come with 2.5 and 3mm spacings between the vertical rows. In my opinion, it seems like they would lay-out better if mounted separate from the sheet format Prexies.

Also, the Scott catalog has made a mess of the 1931 postage due stamps in terms of color and wet/dry printing - some of it is just plain wrong. I gave several pages of comments and corrections to them at Omaha. We'll see how long it takes them to fix the errors.

629 White Plains: I would get a single with a margin or plate number or ? that proves an origin from the 100-stamp sheet, similar to what you have done with the 630 single. It would be a nice pairing.
