No idea of detecting fake cancels other than having a reference collection of cancels. For one, the typeface of the numerals must match what was used at the time. Without knowing the town name this would be impossible to pin down, but I think I see the last letter O or C or G.
Still, it is worrisome that the town name is so weakly struck. Plus, this cancel looks like it's missing "BRF." or "BR." and "EXP." (briefexpedition) flanking the cross, though perhaps there is a style of cancel like this. But this is what I think is a (partial) typical cancel of the style:
