Curious if anyone has noticed this before. It appears that the top design is missing. But the portrait oval is intact and the missing design is below that level on both sides. Sorry, she's a little grungy.
I don't know if short entries exist on the 3c SQ plates but this resembles one. A short entry is caused by a poor transfer of the design from the rocking of the transfer roll when the designs are rocked into the steel plate.
I've looked at several hundreds of the 3c SQs and not seen a short print to this extent at the top. There is a well known example on the lower left discussed in BNAPS articles. Interesting -
Here are 3 examples..Not 100% sure why it is the way it is..
I am 99% sure Mike hit it on the head..But we can NEVER be 100% cause we were not there..When a machine jams or what ever, the first thing a printer does is shut down the machine then close down the ink tray....Fix the cause, trial run..If it is ok, then open up ink and continue...Just saying.
