Scanned here is a cover from my WW postal history collection sent from the Department of Agriculture in Sydney, Australia to San Lorenzo, California, USA. I was hoping to learn more about it. It appears to be government official mail, but why does the postmark say EXCHANGE? I am also trying to figure out the date: 4<black square>P140C26 (my best guess) Any help, much appreciated, Thanks, Linus

Of course !........... Thanks Linus. Linus, do the images show on your computer? if not, I'll post them. Linus, something here is weird according to the text, the "THE" VOID disappeared in 1930. If your CDS does show 1920, then we have read it incorrectly, or the advice in the article is in error. Thoughts ? |

Yes, I got the image you posted. I think the year is 1926. Look at the faint cancel to the left, it looks like a "6" but on the stamp, a perfin hole took out part of the 6 making it look like a 0.
Does 1926 work? |

Sorry Linus, the images in the LINK, My computer shows just boxes, that do not work, when clicked. PS: You were correct 1926 not 1920....or could it be 1936 ?

I am running Windows 10 here on an HP laptop. Images in the link are broken, I get nothing in there.
Looking at it with a 10X magnifier, it looks like 26. |

Quote: Looking at it with a 10X magnifier, it looks like 26. Well then, if we are correct, you have a new "find" (or an earlier use date) I'll see if I can contact the webmaster along with this thread, for his / her appraisal.....done. |

Did you notice the CDS with the void in the image is dated December 1926 Yours Oct 1926 without the void. We have overlapping hammers. |

Linus, the webmaster link bounced. ergo, I'd suggest info no longer attended to.

Good morning. I just discovered that I started this thread in "World Covers" when there is an obvious "Australian Stamps and Covers" area. Quote: sheesh! how did I miss that. Sorry about that! Thanks for the help, and the update. I am new at researching my few Australian covers. Linus |
