Over the next few days I will try to post some recent purchases for my collection. There won't be any certificates to talk about, no super duper graded gems, nothing from a collection that I bought in a multi-million dollar private treaty sale, just a bunch of stuff from ebay. Here is one that I have had for about a week. A Scott #25 with personality.

I don't have any census information but it is safe to say, I think, that this stamp is missing from all but the best specialized collections. |

For those who aren't familiar the recut bust is unique to 47R6 and in the bust it kind of looks like the V of a flock of geese. It's very visible.
Plate 6 was only in use perforated for less than 5 months of 1857 so this is a real rarity. |

This interests me as I have a number of the 25's, I think. I looked through most of them and found this one. Is it this position by any chance? It looks like the orientation is "off" here but if the recut is there please let me know. Thanks. |

Thank you for having the vision to understand, some of us like to read about early US, but the intricacies are often left masked by you specialists that talk in just catalogue numbers and variety sub numbers. |

Sometimes it is better to give less information and let the people that are really curious do a little of there own discovery. Questions are always great too! |

chipshot, your stamp is actually a Scott #26 but you are asking a very good question. Your stamp is from Plate 15 and exhibits a characteristic that is pretty common on Plate 15 stamps. Your stamp is one of the quasi "recut bust" positions. You can read more about it in an article written by Thomas Alexander in USPCS Chronicle 73. |

Thank you all for the information and consideration of my posts. I started my collection in the 60's and now have the time to try to work out what I really have. I will put some info out as I do feel this is a valuable resource for many. |
