Quote: Any thoughts on slipping a piece of white paper behind the stamps? You still have the plastic from the mount between your eye and the stamp. As to how that will influence scanning, I defer to others. |

I prefer black mounts like you have. Stamps pop out more!
Just wonderful collection you put together. Thanks for posting |

A beautiful study and presentation. I can't imagine the amount of work and study required to pull off such an amazing compilation. Great work. |

Quote: (I bid on, but did not win the Amonette color study that came up at auction a couple months ago - it went for stupid money I was hoping to be a strong bidder on this lot. I was a 98 pound weakling in a room (proverbially speaking - I was not in attendance at the auction) full of body builders. I was humbled. Stupid money, indeed! |

I can remember planning on spending stupid money in an auction that was full of awesome three cent stuff. Got beat on most of it. Even "stupid" money is a relative term. |

Nice presentation on the three cent shades. I am curious whether the intense OB was treated with peroxide before submission to the PF? Also wonder if the PF noted the lightened pen cancel? |

I would certainly interested in some high res scans. Even considering monitor differences it would be a great reference tool for the 3c colors. |

The only premium shade I did not send to the PF was the Intense OB. It not only has a lightened pen cancel, but also a nasty thin and a crease or tear at the top. It is from an Amonette color chart. I bet it was treated with peroxide before I got it and suspect that's what lightened the cancel. I also treated it with peroxide and it did not seem to alter the cancel, but it did make a drastic change in color. Before: After: It is a shame this stamp has issues - it is a very pretty color. I am reconsidering sending it in. |

Here's a copy of Amonette's chart with the premium OB shades. I have 6 of the stamps on this chart page. |

Philazilla, as a 40-year collector of the 1851-57 3-cent imperforates, I really appreciate what you've accomplished. Beautiful stamps and presentation! |
