I Have Recently Inherited Some Old British Stamps And Do Not Know What To Do With Them.

Hello. I collect only thematic and mostly US and German ( my nationality as well ) stamps. Not sure what do with this British collection. I was looking to trade them here for US stamps or coins of similar age and preservation because I have a hard time guessing their value and do not know anyone that collects them personally. That seems only possible for long time members though.
If someone could give me a rough estimate on their value and maybe point me to a place where I can trade ( Not that interested in selling ) them online I would be very grateful.

The condition is rather mixed and there is evidence of toning.

The most interesting item, to my eyes at least, is the 1.5d brown postal union congress with the tab at left.

I think you'd be doing well to get $50 for the lot but other opinions may vary.

That is unfortunate. I figured the 1887 2 4/2 d error and perhaps some of the color variants or 1841 stamps were as or more valuable alone. Guess I will just put them in an Album then.

Is that something with British stamps in general not being sought after ? I only really know some real US and German stamp values from collecting and trading them and stamps of comparable age and preservation seem to be valued much higher from those 2 countries.

Very funny . Yes I know that I want to trade them but I had no clue where, how or even a decent guess what the trade value could be. My own about 7 hours of research lead to guesses between 250 € to high 4 digits due to me never having bought, sold or traded any British stamps.

Zephyrus - that's not an error on the Jubilee 2 1/2d, but the cancellation creating the impression of a "4".

Never mind. Probably worth getting them off the old Ideal pages. Careful in any soaking, as the colours on the 1884 and Jubilee issues can be fugitive in water.

Run of the mill material is hard to sell but rare/specialised items, rare watermarks, perforations, postmarks etc. are as always the exception to the rule.

I bought a massive post 1840 GB postal history collection earlier this year and had a terrible time moving what I didn't want.

Had you said "I wish to trade these stamps for circa €250 to €9.900. am I in the ballpark?"
Then we could have offered you advice from our personal experience.

Bear in mind collectors often request appraisals, and as it sometimes doesn't meet with their prev assumptions from Catalogue values, they feel insulted.
Catalogue values are for stamps in mint, or very good condition,
broad spectrum stamps on a page can hide thins, tears, missing teeth, stains, ad nauseum.
All the members here offer the truth with respect, you have a nice, eclectic set of stamps on page, certainly attractive for postmarks etc, but from what I can see, I'd echo Bobby's appraisal at max $50.
There may indeed be a special stamp hiding amongst that lot, but from a distance, how are we to tell.?

"Don't know what to do with them" suggested to me, you may consider giving them away, donating them to a club, beginning collecting yourself. or whatever. All requiring different advice.

Thanks you. I have never actually re hydrated a stamp so far. Maybe these make interesting test subjects for me to try it out then.

Thank you. Maybe when I have the time I will go through them. Perhaps there are some other unusual ones even though getting into a new Nations stamps is time consuming.

I dont really feel insulted with the appraisals since I did not collect the stamps personally. I am slightly disappointed though since the US/GER stamps I usually deal with from that era are fairly valuable by comparison, even in sub optimal condition.
