294 Looks Like It Is Regummed

It is not like this is an expensive stamp, but it may be my first encounter with a regum that I am aware of. It looks like gum in the perf fibers (odd... the top perfs are cut), and it seems to me the gum is saturated along the edges of the front.

Am I correct in this assessment? The bigger question is: why go to the trouble?

Definitely regummed. Reperfed at the top too.

Thanks for confirming, Philazilla. It did not even occur to me that the top may be a re-perf as well, so great to know.

I did not pay much for it, so keeping it to make these notes on the album page.

Thanks for your question Mestephil, I had heard of regumming but had not seen a picture of the tell tale signs, i've learned something useful. I assume the reperf is noticed by a change in Dimensions?

Good practice for the pricier items. Reperfing and reguming. Worthless or fake cert. would be a bonus.

It was Philazilla that pointed out the reperf at the top. To be honest, I did not see it as that, but struck as odd that the at edge look so clean cut. Even with saturated gum on the perf edges on the other sides, you can see paper fibers from where the stamp was originally separated from the sheet. Not so on the top edge - very clean:



I have made a habit of doing high resolution scans on all stamps when received and keeping on record. I did not notice any of this until I did the scan.

Clean cut perfs do not AUTOMATICALLY mean a reperf. They should cause one to check, but sometimes stamps were cut apart with a scissors.

More like a straight edge. Too precise for a scissor cut, it seems. But agreed, does not mean it automatically, but sure stood out.
