Please forgive the ignorance of a (relative) novice, but I'm puzzled by a term used in this ID table that Unitrade provides for the Small Queens. In the column at the right the phrase "pos dot" appears for every face value. Can't find any explanation of its meaning.

pos dot = position dot

to quote Konwiser's "American Stamp Collector's Dictionary": "Position Dots - These are dots incised on a plate for the purpose of guiding the impressions of the transfer roll. Position dots generally are erased but often not sufficiently and will show on the finished panes of stamps generally in the margins."

Some plates show no effort at clean-up!!

Indeed, far left. Now omit the "relative" before "novice."

No no no, wear your "Oops!" as a badge of courage.
These acronyms, or part of, can be an irritation.

We have one in a Prestige catalogue of postmarks,
to date it still has not been solved.

A badge of courage it is, then. And thank you John Becker for the explanation. So far my investment in Unitrade has been invaluable. Glad I followed advice to make the purchase.

If you are researching online, another term is "guide dot" or "plate dot".

Many use the Kiusalas Canada perforation gauge for Large and Small Queen stamps. However, there are some LQ and SQ stamp perforations that gauge in between those found on the Kiusalas gauge.

Unitrade's SQ ID Table provides the Kiusalas gauge number and its Instanta equivalent. Do you find that a useful method of identifying SQs?

Thank you jogil. Info such as that is definitely worth saving. Does it help you to distinguish Montréal from Ottawa printings, as the Unitrade ID Table suggests it will?
