Take a look at this cover..The F2 is 12x12 {normal}..But the Small queen is either a Scott 37 or 41..?

Looks like oxidation has given it a different colour..Hey, maybe a Scott 37b....NOT, haha..Any opinions..??

Robert

#37 was issued in 1873, #41 is contemporaneous with the cover date?

Very true Don..
The weird glitch is some older stamps were used on recent covers..Like the one below, where a 1947 Queen Victoria stamp was used on a 1968 cover below...Not saying that is what happened, but it is possible...

Yes, almost anything is 'possible' but I follow occam's razor...(the simplest solution is most likely the right one).

I wasn't there over 100 years ago and neither were you...We just don't know what happened...It was just an idea...

I posted to find out maybe a colour {maybe with oxidation} and if it is heavy oxidation then why didn't the Scott F2 suffer the same transformation...Very strange.

Robert

And another...

The examples of obviously philatelic covers is not the same as your first commercial cover. Why would a commercial company have 20+ year old stamp sitting around? Seems pretty unlikely.

I understand what you are saying about the color, but sulphurization is notorious for orange stamps of this era so I would be suspect of any assumptions based upon color.

wert: It not Queen Victoria on the Newfoundland stamp. It's Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother as she was called after Queen Elizabeth II became queen.
