Hi all!
I'm 28, and from Victoria, BC in Canada and have recently (~6 months) picked up my childhood hobby of stamp collecting again.
My grandfather and father both collected stamps - my grandfather fairly extensively. Though I am slightly doubtful myself (someone born skeptic!), I'm told that his collection was valued by a dealer and they were offered $3000 for it.
What I think - the dealer said the cat. value was $3000 - and they were offered less...but my family swears by it :) In some number of years, I'll have the collection in my possession and will be able to understand what it contains and the value within much better.
My main areas of interest in terms of my collection -
Canada:
Singles (with some vague interest in color variations in earlier issues) and SS for the purpose of (long-term eventually) completing my series of CWS Parliament albums
FDCs from February 20th 1991 and newer (can you guess why?
)
First flight covers, including USA/International destinations as long as the flight originates or arrives in Canada
Other countries (mainly for the future):
Russia/USSR (love the look of the stamps)
Italy (favorite country other than Canada)
Japan (love the look of the stamps and I find the stamps a fascinating look into the culture)
Hungary (love the look of the stamps)
I'm still getting the hang of the forums, but I am always looking for people to trade stamps with (or just to send spare stamps to) - if this is something you'd be interested in, I suppose, let me know? :)
