Does anyone have any info on these Messina Disaster stamps? The envelope is from Littleton Stamp Co. It say's the stamps were issued by Germany in 1908 to help the people of Messina.

My question is are they stamps or cinderellas. I can't seem to find them in Scott's anywhere.

The second Scan is of a few that I beleive to be German but can't find at all in Scott's.

Thanks a bunch for your help.

Dianne

2nd scan top row look under Bohemia and Moravia, the others should be DDR. As for the Messina Disaster stamps I took a look in my Michel Cat. and they don"t appear to be listed their ether.

Dianne, the first two in the bottom row are DDR from 1990, Scott 2836 and 2833. The last one is a German occupation stamp from Berlin, 9N43.

The Messina Disaster stamps are probably some type of charity seal and therefore Cinderellas.

The triangles are interesting to me because the three sides of the stamps are straight. But the edges of the printed images are slightly rounded/curved.

Thanks a bunch guys

You're all so very helpful.

I'm now officially done with German collection ( for now at least). Now on to DDR.

Dianne !
How did you come by the Messina Charity Labels ????
Lovely, really lovely.

These were printed in a number of different countries in the same design. Some of two colours and some of just one colour.
I do not have all details but some of the countries issued them in Tete-Beche sheets. On some of the larger sheets [GB for example], they were Tete-Beche in relation to the other designs as well as the same design.
Many reproductions exist, although I have seen these selling for around the same prices as originals so there is obviously a demand.
I am not sure if the high value of the King and Queen were issued for each country.
They do not come cheap !

Countries I know.
Italy, 5 cents [centesimi]...sheets of 30
France, Set of 11
GB, 1˝d...sheets of 50
Denmark, 10 0re...set of 11
Russia,5 kopecks...sheet of 50
Germany, 2 types. Multicoloured and single colour. Sets of 11, 10pf + 20pf [King and Queen].

There are more, but my memory is not with me tonite. ebay often has some on their lists.

Some years ago, I won a set of the Italians but they sadly went missing in the post.
That was the nearest I came to a set. A great find Dianne !

I think I picked them up at a stamp show in a box of misc stuff.

They're yours if you wish (sounds like you wish a lot) I'll have in the mail tomorrow. I don't collect cinderellas and I know you'll enjoy them.
