Buteo buteo is also called mouse buzzard and usually sits on a low perch watching carefully for a mouse before striking. Mice don't often go about as exposed as the one seen on the stamp; they are always quite hidden in the grass. Hungary 2012. And they don't have as much chance of survival as with a snake! |

If you get to know them , mice are filial children too! Quote:
Filial Duty A surgeon's mate on board a ship relates that while lying one evening awake he saw a rat come into his berth, and after well surveying the place, retreat with the greatest caution and silence. Soon after it returned, leading by the ear another rat, which it left at a small distance from the hole which they entered. A third rat joined this kind conductor; they then foraged about, and picked up all the small scraps of biscuit; these they carried to the second rat, which seemed blind, and remained in the spot where they had left it, nibbling such fare as its dutiful providers, whom the narrator supposes were its offspring, brought to it from the more remote parts of the floor.

Spider Eating a Pygmy Possum Is Obviously Australian https://gizmodo.com/spider-eating-a...n-1835612873 Christmas truce is obviously over! Quote: Huntsman spiders are large arachnids named for the way they actively hunt for their prey. They typically feed on invertebrates and sometimes larger animals like lizards.
Pygmy possums are nocturnal, mouse-sized marsupials found in Oceania. Though it's not clear which species of pygmy possum we're looking at here (I've reached out to experts for help identifying it), the island has two species, the Eastern pygmy possum and the Tasmanian pygmy possum. The latter is the smallest possum in the world. Also, as a note to American readers, possums are a family of animals only distantly related to the Western Hemisphere opossums, and are in fact named due to their resemblance to our opossums. |

Another mouse buzzard (Buteo buteo) and an African grass mouse (Arvicanthis niloticus); one of his kind has already been caught! I wonder why it is sitting in such an exposed position? Guinea Bissau, 2009 (Hi Idebee, Great, you found a Dürer, maybe you can find the other one. I wonder if the spider of Korea is the same species as the one in Australia - they don't seem to have the same markings. K.) |

Oops, Vayolene has found it already! I find it too. 450th Anniversary of the Death of Albrecht Dürer, Paraguay, 1978. It's an interesting hide & seek game, I feel kindda like a marten tracking a mouse down its snow tunnels maze. :-) http://sa.sogou.com/sgsearch/sgs_vi...01856&mat=12 As for the spiders, they are all called huntsman, but I think they are of different species in the strict scientic sense. There is also a squirrel by Durer, What a wonderful coincidence just for the other thread! :-) |

There is a really cute white mouse for the new year pictured on the stamp from the Philippines. (2019) (Good hunting for the Dürer! Congratulations, K.) |
