Thanks Don. That might explain a lot of Russian Souvenir sheets that I own that do not have Scott numbers. Can you give me more info as to what these are or point me to a website that has more info? BTW- I noticed your avatar- My mom drove a Studebaker. I grew up riding in the back seat of that car. I have faint yet fond memories of "Suzie".
Yes, it's a souvenir sheet issued for the philatelic exhibition. These were quite popular in the USSR in the late 1970s - 1980s, they were printed by philatelic organizations from a city to the national level for different philatelic exhibitions that were quite frequent in the USSR then. They had now perforations and glue on the reverse.
This one is among rather few issues that were prepared by the Ministry of Communications in the 1980s. They were perforated in some cases and had glue, and, unlike the local souvenir sheets, they were distributed in the same way as stamps for philatelists, through specialized philatelic shops and outlets. They were more like more recent blackprints, not previous souvenir sheets.
There was a paper catalogue, prepared locally, but I can't recall anything online in regards to such items.
Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about how to display these sheets in my album. With this info, I think that I'll create custom pages for these philatelic souvenirs and put them all in the back of the album arranged by date. Mike- I did notice the cancellation of the monetary amount. I guess it's a subtle way of denoting that this stamp is not valid for postage.
