Newbie Question On Trading In Stamp Club

I am thinking of my first stamp club visit on their trade/swap night.

Is it just 1 for 1 swap of duplicate stamps? How do I ascertain value, so its a fair trade for both parties?

I have not yet had the time to organize all my duplicates, they are in a big pile. So far I have picked out some MNH Deutsches Reich and British-era India postally used good quality stamps for the trade night.

Since I have never done this, any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Everything depends on the agreement between you and the person who you`ll trade.

I used to trade 1 by 1 and sometimes some person wants to trade based on some catalogue value...

What I mean is, there is now restricted rule... as Peter said: just go and talk to people.
