Is anyone familiar with these "proofs"? Apparently they were reprinted in 1905 or 1906 for someone named Hansberg. He was writing a book that was never published but managed to get New Zealand to print a large number of "proof" Chalon Heads in black 2d. The "proofs" were sold to the Globe Stamp Co. in London and many of those eventually went to someone called Bela Sekula in Hungary ~ who sold them off to collectors.

Assuming these are 1905 Hansberg, are they still really considered Proofs or should I call them reprints? I hesitate to call them forgeries because they did (hopefully) at least come from the original plate.

Hey priceknight.
I have just managed to secure a set from the 1906 Hausberg 'reprints'.

You are quite right with the setting being Mr Hausberg ordered them Im not qualified to tell you whether you have one of the extremely rare 2d perkins and bacons proof with no watermark, but here's a link that might help.

This will get your wheels turning!

I have the book, a fairly thin volume called (IIRC) The Stamps of New Zealand. There is a plate bound in with a large block of these. Unfortunately most copies of the book have had that page cut out and broken into smaller blocks and singles. I believe they were printed specifically for the book from original plates. Note this is not The Postage Stamps of New Zealand, which is a much heavier tome, and several volumes now.

I'm afraid it's in a box in my upstairs bedroom, and I haven't been able to get up there to sort through them since the car accident two years ago. :(

Iv since found this out. The Chalon book, for which the 1906 reprints that Hausburg had ordered, was never completed. So according to this page ...
http://www.nzstamps.org.uk/chalon/r...t/index.html

Some were printed onto card and some onto white wove paper. What started off as a simple enough purchase is now getting down to some nuts and bolts.
and then theres this
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtop...?f=10&t=3888

Now it appears there is a 1913 Jollife reprint. According to my fairly knowledgeable source this is what your book reprints may be billsey. Also please note a lesser distribution of print

Soo I have no idea what I have and I am hoping someone with a lot more experience and knowledge can sit me down and discuss this. Am emailing people as I go so will let you know what I find out. And please vice versa?

cheers

Here's another block on thick card. I bought this in Montreal in the 1970s.

What would be a reasonable price for this?

Well I'm sure that the estimate of GBP40 for that a block of 7x12 is going to disappoint. I don't see a date on the auction site's page. Is this an upcoming or past auction? It will be interesting to see what price it realizes.

Geoff, thanks for the reply.

Lost and found, unfortunately I find myself on the other end of the buy/sell spectrum. Being of a somewhat advanced age and with no one with enough interest to pass my collection on to when I go to the big philatelic bureau in the sky, I would prefer to sell my stamps myself rather than leave it to my wife or executor, neither of whom have any experience in the field. Currently I'm doing an inventory of my rather unruly collection.
