Hello,

I don't find any information in the SG GB Concise and not in the internet or SCF (yet), so I open this topic.

What did the sheet layout of the watermarks of the GB Victoria stamps look like, so the "marginal watermark"? Was it always the same? Is there any source to have a look at it? It should be something with POSTAGE as I found in another forum.

All I found is this image:
https://goscf.com/t/63049#546731

But this is not the Victoria crown watermark from GB 1840s-1870s which I search.

I think this could be mentioned and listed for Victoria stamps in any specialised catalogue?

This is the interesting example what I found and wondered about:

The Perkins Bacon sheets had the word POSTAGE once in the top and bottom selvedge and twice in the side selvedges.

The crown watermarks (small or large) are enclosed in a frame of five straight parallel watermark lines.

From 1863 letters A to Z were incorporated in the upper and lower margins. From 1870 double letterings AA to ZZ were used.

The 1/2d paper had numbers 1 to 8 instead of letters.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much. Yes, this helps already, sorry for further questions:

From 1863, was there still POSTAGE then on the left and right?
And the same for the 1870s?

And I didn't understand the "frame", is this a line?

No need to apologise!

From how I read it, I'd say not.

Thank you again. I actually thought that this watermark design was important to GB Victoria specialised collectors and as such shown and mentioned and listed as varieties in the specialised catalog. I don't find any image anywhere, is there really none in the specialised catalog (don't ask to show it here, only if there is some added value to buy that catalogue concerning early watermarks in comparison to the Concise).

The general notes to the surface printed issues in the Stanley Gibbons Specialised Stamp Catalogue of Great Britain, Vol. 1, has a sketch of the printer's sheet showing the position of the "POSTAGE" watermark in the margins. There also is a sketch for the mill sheets for the Jubilee issue.
