I don't hinge stamps so I don't know much about the different types. Going through some 1960's German blocks and sheets many have strips across the back, what are these called? I found them strange since they were housed in mounts.

Looks more like tape than a hinge. Is it tacky to the touch?

Agree.
Only other thing, is member "Revenuecollector" I think, posted his use of a protective material used for ageing ephemera.
It may be a cut strip of that.
Certainly odd.

It's not tape, peels right off even easier than most hinges.

I think that jkelly is probably right.

When I first saw the post, I thought it looked like a strip of Archival mending tape. Here is an example of what I use.

Linco Document Repair Tape (Image from a recent ebay purchase)

I use it primarily to repair damaged items in my collection of 19th century post office documents, and have had no issues with it.

Could be archival tape used for scrapbooking. There are many types that are repositionable and archival.
