There are seemingly books about every stamp set ever issued, but I have been unable to find one solely devoted to the 1893 Columbians, the world's first commemoratives. Sure, there are lots of other books, several of which I have, which cover this series in a fair amount of detail, but they also cover many other stamps/sets as well. Does anyone know of any books that are entirely devoted to the Columbians?

There is one that I know of which was published in the 1940's - The United States Columbian Issue,1893 by A. A. Lauzon, Copyright 1942 by Chambers Publishing Company. It is mostly about the plate varieties. There are also a series of articles published in the US Classics Society's Chronicle written by George Arfken circa 1987-1990 in issues 134 through 145. They only cover up to the 50¢ though. I think because it was a philatelic issue it has not seen the coverage it might have though there are numerous works on the non-philatelic aspects of the Exposition. The United Postal Stationery Society has a work devoted to just the postal cards - The Handbook of the Postal Card's of the World's Columbian Exposition by Kenneth C. Wukasch published in 2005.

Coastwatcher,
Gentle hint, to get more responses, let us know which references YOU have found so far. That way we don't repeat your efforts. If you want us to put skin into the game to help you, show us what effort you have made. Sorry if that is blunt, but ...

There is also a small book on the 2-cent issue by Coulson. Quite a few auctions sales have specialized in Columbian collections and they can be a good source of information.

JohnBecker, the only real source of solid information that I was able to find, and subsequently purchased, was the three volumes of "The 19th Century Postage Stamps of the United States" by Lester Brookman. Thank you to everyone for the information, it has all been quite helpful.

There is a good list within this thread:

Indeed most Columbian literature focuses on the 2 cent.

JohnBecker, Thanks, I may have to look into getting a few of those listed in the thread from the APRL. Although I'm focused on more than just the 2c stamp, they will all still be of interest to me.
