Lucidview 6939

The Auction Leprechaun (who bestows the luck-of-the-lot) has bequeathed 16x 2-pocket pages for covers less than 9x19cm (4x7-1/2", y'all) each.

They were in a binder marked "Westminster Collectors Society", who might be these guys:

https://www.westminstercollection.com/

(Of course, they might have made their way to that binder from somewhere else.)

The only reference a quick google turned-up was to these same pages being sold in binders marked "Fleetwood".

Unlike the other pocket pages in the same auction lot, these seem to have suffered with time; they are grayish, a bit wrinkly and, in an instance or two, stuck to the covers within.

I am wondering if these are made from the dreaded plasticized vinyl.

They are embossed "LUCIDIVEW 6939".

I look forward to learning.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

I found that:

1) Mystic sells Lucidview pages to store covers.

2) An older original package of these pages stated that they were made of the finest German vinyl (think Mercedes S Class or Maybach)

3) The packaging states that the finest German vinyl does not contain plasticizers

4) The toll free telephone number on the package is no longer in service

5) The toll free telephone number was associated with unicover.com

6) Unicover.com is now the "China Stamp Agency in North America"

Edit: The plot thickens as Fleetwood Covers was purchased by Mystic in 2011 and Fleetwood was the purveyor of finest German vinyl Lucidview cover sleeve pages. Phew

Any material could cause sticking to the enclosed covers. I would guess that if they are event covers or FDCs, it is the printing ink on the covers and maybe the stamps that are sticking. That's bad storage more than anything else, like leaving the album in a parked car in the hot sun. I've seen "archival" pages react the same way when left in a hot car, so that's not necessarily a knock on Lucidiview. Don't reuse affected pages -- the inks can transfer onto any cover replaced in the same pocket.

Plasticized vinyls, etc. are detectable by the very greasy/oily feel of the plastic. That's the plasticizing chemical you're feeling. You can rub your fingers together afterwards and can still feel an oily residue. The pages have a strong reek of plastic even after years. Over time, plasticizers will often dissolve ink from covers and bleed color into the plastic page and cover. This is not the same feel of smooth plastic like on poly cover sleeves that a lot of people mistake for plasticizers. It's often more one's naturally greasy paws that are being felt there.

There are other chemicals potentially used on plastic storage pages and other bad stuff. IMO time is the judge of what is good or bad for our purposes. How old are the covers in the album?

I'll search my database,
If I recall, it involves cutting a slither of plastic, and burning it under a flame.
The colour of the flame will evidence vinyl.

Here we go.........
Google for the *.pdf
