Did Yvert & Tellier ever publish a second volume of their Catalogue Spécialisé des Timbres de France? That is, a volume that goes beyond 1900? I have "Tome I" and can't find anywhere a volume two or any mention thereof.

No, although there is an earlier, two-volume set that covers a wider period - I'll take a photo later once I've eaten my roast pork and trimmings. |

Thank you, Geoffrey. Could be just what I need. (I'd take a bit of that well trimmed roast as well, though I doubt whether there'll be any left-overs.) |

Roast good, but, despite copious amounts of oil and salt, the crackling didn't really crackle ... My copy of this is in the form of a two-volume set in a slipcase. The first volume was, I presume, simply replaced by the lovely colour edition that you have. The second, covering the period after 1900, doesn't seem to have been re-done, unless our colleagues in France know better. I picked this up in an auction lot of French philatelic literature, along with the Ceres volume. Abebooks may be a possible source, but postage costs from Europe would be nasty. I've used both less than I should have expected, life having got in the way ... |

My copy of Y&T's Catalogue Spécialisé, Tome I is from 1975. Despite the fancy paper jacket, the text is not in color. Seems the same as yours. The hard cover as well. Your Tome II is precisely what I'm after, though the Cérès volume would probably do as nicely. I'll now be searching for both. I'm just beginning to get serious about France, and I like the way Y&T's catalogue is organized. Scott, by contrast, favors stamp design over chronology.
In any case, thanks for the photos. They've given me direction. Eric
PS Should you ever think of selling, give me a thought.

Eric - ah, I also ave a later Volume 1, the chief selling-point of which us probably its excellent colour illustrations. It may be worth your picking up the Spink/Maury catalogue for France. Rather more detailed than the standard Yvert catalogue, although not crammed with varieties. Enjoy France! |

Found a copy of Cérès, Catalogue des Variétés, on AbeBooks. Ships from the UK, yet affordable (shipping cost $1 more than the sale price). No luck so far finding v. 2 of the Y&T Spécialisé. Will take a look at Spinks/Maury, about which I know nothing at this point. Had no idea there were so many options.
Best to you, Eric |

There's a two-volume set, but at what seems an off-the-wall price - although que sais-je? https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/...rp1-_-image5Maury is the fuller catalogue and is excellent VFM. It was dogged for many years by rather average distribution and wholesaling (a shop-owner in Brussels once told me he couldn't get hold of the catalogues, and wouldn't make any money from them if he did). Spink has sorted that out, but isn't, it seems from another thread, going to reprint the Colonies volumes. |

Quite right about that price. Particularly since I already have the first volume. People often sell affordable copies, probably because they can upgrade to the color version. Since there's no such upgrade for volume two, those who have one hang on to it. Perhaps the Cérès I've ordered will suffice for now. Meanwhile, I'll investigate Spinks/Maury. |

Thank you, perf12. I've gone to Delcampe and am in the process of buying these volumes. Just waiting to learn the shipping cost. Grateful to both you and GeoffHa for taking the trouble to help me with online searches. Participating in this forum has enhanced my enjoyment of the hobby in so many ways.
