Folks,

Thanks to one of my other hobbies (military history publishing), an archive has come into my possession. It is a collection of correspondence - over six filing cabinet drawers full - of letters, maps, and photos, with postal covers attached. The correspondence dates from the 1980s and 90s, so the stamps themselves are unremarkable. The correspondence is from U.S. Army veterans - survivors of the hard-luck 34th Infantry regiment that participated in the early weeks of the Korean War.

Among these often hand-written letters are signatories such as Alexander Haig and Matthew B. Ridgeway. Many others are West Point graduates and others all the way down to privates.

I anticipate distilling a book or two from this material along with supporting blogs for posting PDF coppies of the more compelling documents. After that comes the question of what to do with the documents and accompanying covers. Almost all these correspondents have passed away; the return addresses are no longer valid.

Any suggestions for how to "retire" this material are most welcome.

Personally,I would scan it to my computer, then lend or donate the originals to a military museum in perpetuity.
