older bi colour stamps were printed, perhaps the frame first, in one colour, and the vignette later, in another colour.
The "registration" between the two colours, can give rise to "mis-registration"
EFO errors freaks and oddities.
If you crop any two stamps to their design borders, then toggle the two images with your mouse, you get this..............

Wow that is so awesome - I knew something seemed off about the two - I kept staring at them and I just could not quite capture it. The fact that one is pushed farther to the right escaped me until Wkusau pointed it out.

On a separate note, I think it might be time for me to get the next Scott specialty catalogue so that I can go beyond 1940. Thanks for checking my stamps out.

Scott does not have a specialized catalog for Mexico. Of course you could get the reuglar scott volume that has Mexico in it. I would suggest that you think about joining MEPSI - Mexico-Elmhurst Philatelic Society, International. You will find a treasure trove of information and books on Mexican stamps.

Thanks Charles - yes, I mean the Scott Classic Specialized World - I assume there is a 1941 - something :). However, I am a member of MEPSI - I need to get on their website and actively use my membership. Thank you for reminding me, I got a new MEPSI catalog today that I also need to check out.

It seems to me that there are more lines of shading above the dome in the bottom stamp than in the top one.

Sorry, no.
only major "shifts" are considered by collectors,
say, if the vignette was way over to one side, or towards the top.

As Rod writes: collectors will look for major shifts. What constitutes a major shift is mostly determined by what is normal.

On the other hand, this is your collection. A minor variety is a variety that has the adjective minor preceding it. Mount it next to a well-centred example and label it "shift" and you will have your variety.

Nora - glad you're enjoying yourself! Might I make a couple of presentational suggestions? The first would be, for presentational purposes, not to mix black and clear mounts, but stick with clear, which enable you or a subsequent owner to see the information beneath the stamp. The 12 ultramarine has moved into the wrong home, by the way. The second, particularly where Scott creates a solid horizontal line of stamps, would be to cut the mount much tighter to the stamp, thus ensuring that it fits neatly and centrally into the box. These pages were designed for hinges, not mounts, so it helps, as far as possible, to replicate the hinging practice.

Thanks Geoff, makes sense. I only used the black on the large square format stamps - only because I do not have Clear that fit - but that was a lazy move on my part. Well if I can I will replace those, but only if I can get them off with out tearing anything. Not sure why the heck I put that 12 Ultramarine there - I must have been distracted :).
