Hello friends
I'm reading the PDF articles The 4-Bar Postmark of the USPS by Christine Sanders, about the different types of the 4-Bar pmk.

Some friend can tell me what types are the 4-Bar that I show in this link?

Hand cancellation: "SUPAI, ARIZ. APR 5 1940"
Hand cancellation: "SUPAI, ARIZ. MAY 2 1961"

These potmarks are from the Jack Mount exhibit, Arizona Postal History

Thanks.

The article by Christine Sanders is interesting. Christine Sanders writes that proper identification of the type of 4 Bar Cancel requires measurements of certain features of the cancel:

Images of the cancels referenced in your post:

I read her article with interest as I believe I have an example that doesn't match any she published for the cancel date of 1913:

There are a number of experts on this forum who might be able to answer your question without having an example in front of them to measure. I am not one of them.

From the Sanders' article, both of the Supai 4-bars would fall into the F/1 category, which is not broken down into subtypes by spacing, letter-width, etc. That level of detail is for the individual town specialist. It is fairly easy to find towns which had half a dozen (or more) F/1 4-bars from the 1930's to the 1960s, distinguishable by small typesetting differences. I suspect this is due to periodic letting of contracts among various manufacturers who operated from a specification with some tolerance.

There are also many non-standard handstamps, which to not fit the general typing scheme. Many of these were made locally.

John,
Thank you very much for your information. I'm a newbie in these postmarks and it was very difficult for me to find these differences.
