Deegam Handbook has this table describing tagging of Machins.

Deegam makes no mention of any yellow afterglow. It mentions possible afterglow under long wave.

What is confusing to me is that I see a yellow afterglow on many of the yellow phosphor Machins under short wave light. I have a collection of LW and SW lights and not unique to any one light.

What am I seeing then?

BTW
Deegam has an excellent write up on luminescence and phosphorescence in general on the chemistry involved.

REACTION is largely dependent on quality of lamp applied. many UV DEVICES are simply underpowered and useless.

I use 110v LW 40WATT desklamp bulbs, and a SW filter over SAME

I have enough quality lamps and not just the smaller 4 watt versions.

I am even captured a video. The clip was slowed down since the afterglow is fairly quick. Whatever color it is, it does not look violet. It is not a result of slow decay of the lamp bulb.

Looks like the color was ionizing to some degree from the UV light, but I can't offer a more scientific answer.

The afterglow in the video looks bluish-violet to me. The yellow fluorescence disappears almost immediately after the lamp is turned off. The bluish violet phosphorescence is quite pronounced.

angore:

Thanks for the video. I had heard of this sequence f events but had not realized just how faint the after-glow is. With this new information, I'll have to give it another try.

The afterglow time varies a lot by phosphor but often very shot so hard to see. I hold the lamp against the stamp for at least 10 seconds. Others recommend closing your eyes while the lamp is on then open as you turn it off. I work in a dark roo,

The video runs at 1/4 speed of original speed.
