Dear forum,

My collection has finally grown to the state when I can consider creating my own custom Album, printing pages and using stamp mounts instead of going with the stock book.

However, sadly this isn't so straight forward as I wished it would be.

One huge concern that I have is to figure out how should I mount some blocks that I have. More specifically I have one huge item that goes 210mm*140mm (height*width).

I have red many posts about different types of mounts and found out about one interesting one - DAVO Easy, seems very practical however I fear that TOP LOADED mount won't be able to hold my block mentioned above.

Does anyone has experience with DAVO or can suggest other ways to mount it? I would love to keep all my stamps mounted with the same brand to maintain professional look of the album.

I have used Prinz split back mounts for mounting items that size. The bottom half does have to be spot moistened and pinned to mitigate the "flop" factor when turning pages.

I use Hawid clear top loaders for my pages.

This Kansas egg stamp is 216 mm wide and 140 mm high.

I mount these along the right edge (sideways) and have not had an issue.

That's my route also, I use black Hawid.
Mount right edge, or bottom edge depending what mount provides best coverage without wastage.
I do use page protectors.

Subway Stamp Shop, and perhaps other sellers, also sell clear vinyl stamp mounting corners in various sizes. I regularly use their 1" size to hold blocks of four and covers on album pages. They also sell a much larger (about 2") size. I think they're measured along the straight side and not the diagonal side. I use the larger size for very large multiples of stamps and larger covers. For small items, two corners seems to work well, but for larger items you'll need four. They work really well, even if they are a bit fiddly to get the edges of stamps or covers into without sticking to things. I've become a lot better at it over time, though. I like the way they look in my albums. Less plastic and more stamps is what I prefer.

Thank you, everyone.

I was thinking about combining items from both worlds, taking top-loader + 2 mounting corners on top. Will see how it will work out.

I started making my own album for probably some of the same reasons you have. I'd been using SAFE 18-ring classic album pages, but I found them too restrictive when I began to collect occasional pairs, duplicates, mini-sheets, and covers. In addition, I also wanted more than just a Scott number under each item (these had to be hand written with SAFE album pages).

I've found the DAVO Easy mounts to work beautifully. They hold the stamp securely, and the stamps don't move around all (in contract to the classic SAFE pages). Some people say that they would never trust them because stamps could fall out of the top or sides of the mount. I'm verver going to toss my album around like a newspaper, however. I've found that the mount material clings to itself, so if you cut the mount large enough to leave a reasonable border around the stamp you are displaying, it seems to hold very securely. The pictures that I took below show a line demarcating where the adhesive stops on the back of the mount It is much, much less noticeable to the eye in ordinary light than it is on the photograph.

I am still using some SAFE pages for the very largest items, but I may even replace them at some point. SAFE does make some single pocket pages for sheets.
