What Was The Last Lick And Stick Stamp Printed In The Us.

I have always loved the old lick and stick stamps as to me there seems to be much more variety of subject matter that is placed on the stamps vs the modern stamps that seem to be mostly some incantation of the us flag.

So it got me to thinking what was the last lick and stick stamp printed.

If my records are correct, the last gummed stamps are:

Definitive - #3620 37¢ US Flag issued June 2002

Commemorative - # 3545 34¢ James Madison Oct 2001

Airmail - #C132 40¢ William T. Piper 1993

I didn't collect coils after year 2000, so someone else will have to date the last one there.

Duck stamp at least thru 2017? (I quit collecting them after that)

Stamped envelopes are still lickin' and stickin'. That is, if you choose the WAG (water activated gum) option v. the PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) option when you order them.

If you purchase a stamped envelope over the counter, at a post office, you will probably get offered a size 10 (UPSS size 23), no window, PSA. One choice of the 12 options manufactured by Ashton-Potter.

Stationery collectors would like to hear of post offices that offer more than one type.

The 2006 Washington souvenir sheet (scott 4075?) is lick and stick.

The Champlain souvenir sheet, 4074, came out about the same time as the Washington 2006 SS. There were some other coils prior to the one eyeonwall mentions. I think that, by 2002, almost all commemoratives were self-adhesive. There were still some WAG issues in 2001 … Freda Kahlo, Leonard Bernstein, James Madison & Enrico Fermi come to mind. I think most of the 2001 commemoratives were probably still WAG.
