It seems that I have placed the wrong image beside the other as the perfs are identical, these images are from a photo inventory of my stamps. I'll scan the actual stamps today and upload them. I am very specific when it comes to colour, although I am partially colour-blind, I do use other sources. My fiancee who has a Bachelor's Degree with Distinction in Fine Arts and Art Theory (plus other degrees), has a perfect eye for shades, and the person I buy the stamps from is also very good.

Of course you are right about colour constancy, and also the type of monitor but a lot of work is done to ensure that the shade fits the description in the ACSC.

As far as every-one that is involved the colours are correct.

Hi Rob,
Understood. It seems to me a heavily inked Violet Blue stamp would be darker and a lightly inked stamp would look paler. If not, how does someone tell the difference between a different ink formulation and typical production variance in the amount of ink being applied?

Apologies to all those who see the display (cannot edit it). There is an unfortunate error, I checked my collection and my written inventory and found only 3 blues (blue, pale blue, deep violet blue).

There is no violet blue, what I believed happened is when my previous scanner was failing it may have deepened the shade, and then I added it to an image inventory with the stamp showing its proper shade, assuming they were different.

Because of the high replacement value of the stamps I have two inventories, an excel record showing every detail of every stamp, invoice value and both the 2015 and 2019 ACSC catalogue values, and a second record showing every image of the stamps in my collection showing ACSC catalogue numbers and descriptions.

These records are necessary if any are stolen and when the collection is insured.

I have been told creating multiple inventories was a waste of time, and regardless what people had said that the time used is time invested. This robbery is evidence that multiple inventories are kept, especially if you own irreplaceable stamps. Every stamp I collect is scanned and listed in the inventory.

I two have very valuable stamps, and there is always that chance some b...... will help himself to them.

Here are samples of the multiple inventories I have, it has taken many years to build up the inventory (the blue square with red writing means the stamp has yet to be bought).

If any stamps go missing, I will be onto it like Sherlock Holmes and will be able to give Police and stamp shops every detail of the stamps missing, especially the certification numbers of the certificates.

It is tedious but it does pay off at the end.
