Nice postally used stamp with the Multiple crown & Script CA Mainly used as revenue for revenue purposes. Must Watch out for cleaned off revenue cancels with manipulated stamps. |

Collectors would be well advised to adopt caution when "soaking" any commonwealth stamp of "Magenta" colouration. They are oft of "fugitive" ink.
This explains the current example.
I recently read of a member using "boiling water" to soak stamps. Use at your peril. I consider that bad advice.

Is it supposed to be an SG 320? There is quite a bit of incentive to give it the appearance of being postally used. |

I would make it either King George V Sc#215 Wmk 3 Sc#245 Wmk 4 Both chalky paper, hence the lift of partial image. Wax cross would suggest to me Registration (Postally used) but green ? Otherwise maybe a Telegraph cancellation. Chasing the Pmk has been fruitless thus far. Cannot recall if Ceylon punctured their Telegraphs. I think we can put the green cross down as "Re-use protection" Sc#131 |

Given the shape of the crown in the watermark, this should be SG 358, Multiple Script CA, as perf12 pointed out earlier. Scott 245. |

Wow! a beautiful image of the 50 rupee, Perf 12 ! I looked everywhere for one. Thank you. Wax Registration markings are common in Red or Blue, particularly in Commonwealth countries. Green I have never seen, also, with the wax lines not intersecting at right angles, I remain with the opinion they are random re-use prevention. Postal Revenue usage is a valid option, that is beyond my knowledge I have a Ceylon booklet somewhere in my Library, unable to locate it today. |

The OP should post a much better pic (High definition)of the stamp. I am still doubtful of the cancel. The letter spacings seem quiet a bit seperated from one another in CEYLON. One of Madame Joseph's handywork ?...
