Germany Saxony Is This A Postal Stationery Cut Square?

My first thought is that this item was a cut square from an old collection. It is on very stiff, thick paper though not what I would call card. It is embossed. It had a gridded cancel similar to other postage with the central number 15 in the cancel.

What actually threw me a bit is that the back of the stamp is gummed. Some disturbance, obviously, since it is used, but the entire back was gummed. Then, when I compared the face value to other issues, it seems to be a relatively high denomination stamp and not what you usually find on postal stationery. Can someone with a specialized catalogue please enlighten me?

You might be correct that it is a cut-out. It looks like one from ca. 1863. If anyone has a Michel Ganzsachen Katalog for Germany, try Mi. nr. 24.

Generally, postal stationery cutouts are not collected by Germany specialists, because the specific item can't be identified in many cases because of varying envelope specifications.

In the case of Saxony, however, the cutouts can be collectible, because they had franking power.

Michel says this, "All cutouts of the envelopes could be used as franking stamps after the announcement of 1 July, 1859. The prices are only valid for pieces with the cancel on the envelope."

So, if this item were on the envelope piece with the cancel tying it, it would catalog at 2000 euros. If it were just the round indica cutout tied to the clipping, the catalog value would be 1500 euros.

And I thank you both for the help. Looks like the gum remnants on the reverse is either from someone gluing it into an old collection or someone affixing it to an envelope many, many years ago. In any case, I can clean it up and add it as a curiosity. Worth, of course, 1500 Euros. One of those winged pigs just flew past my window.
