Opinion: The "D" on the postal hammer is there for audit purposes, all postal hammers needed to be accounted for in the distribution to offices. Ergo, there would probably exist an A, B ...etc
Thank you Rod222. I understand the requirement for the indicia, I was just wondering if the letter 'D' meant anything (ie Drop, etc). I have not seen this letter used before. Chris
Lars, then it would be beyond my knowledge, yet I doubt "drop" From my collection, in a broad sense, I see numerical indicia on later Canadian stamps.
In your example time frame I have "S" and "A" underneath the top ring, Then "time" indicia, "AM" "3PM" etc.
I remain with my original opinion, but always happy to be corrected. You'll need to do research, or someone else more experienced than I, here, to confirm /deny.
