Surrender not enough? :) I was hoping to see some tantalising Indian issues. does anyone here collect India? Desperately seeking Travancore.

Rod-
I'm plugging away on pre-independence India. I'm making some progress on KGV and KGVI, a bit less on Vicky and Ed. The states are killing me. I have a representative smattering of them, probably several hundred, but certainly less than a thousand. Lots of KGV overprints, but lots more to go.
I haven't put any Travancore up in response to your requests because I figure what I have is probably pretty common. Are you just starting into it, or nearing completion, or somewhere in between?

"Plugging away" about explains it Collin, very aptly put. I am probably at the beginning of Travancore, I have about 3000 stamps, I have the book by Dr Moos, (which I must post to the Library thread, if I havn't already done so) but I find two major hurdles in collecting here, the common lack of good clear strikes on Travancore stamps, and absolute frustration of identifying watermarks.
After 11 years I still am yet to find a watermark detector of any use, and I was warned off the expensive SG detector.
My plan is just to accumulate as many as I can, for further study somewhere down the track. Probably I will not get serious until I join the respected India Study Group, I just find the distractions of my current "recreational collecting" more to my liking, a little more relaxing (and easier on the wallet).

I was going to defend suggesting it may have been on a package of overalls, pair of socks, a shirt maybe, for the wife's husband, a navvy somewhere down the line, then of course we have the large OS, (I really like the large OS) So it must have been the Major's batman, mailing home his jeep. |

I can beam you up this one Spock1k, I sold all my Scinde Dawks because they made the album "lumpy" to the feel. So...a very expensive piece of wax. |

This Tuvalu cover could have been a nice piece until the Fiji Post Office got hold of it and cancelled the stamps with the leg of a chair. The blue mark is from Funafuti, Tuvalu |

KirkS, the thing that irks me most about the cover is that being registered, it is OK to put a transit mark, but the Fiji Post office should have chaired the back, not the front. |

This issue was voted the worst issue from Australia Post for a long time. [2006] |

You are a harsh critic quigngt I reckon Guatemalan stamps have a charm of their own, I think these shown are fine. Perhaps we are, our own worst critics, I find modern Aussie bland and uninspiring, with a cartoon style regularity. |
