I noticed these two as I was transferring stamps from an old approval book. They were on different pages so I didn't notice at first. Not sure if they came off the same cover. One has an additional cancel.

As these two stamps were canceled in 1882, there is a high probability that they are SC 183.

Reunited. This was one of those insomnia posts. Regarding the id. I was going by what had been scrawled over a hundred years ago next to the stamps. Didn't question it, now I'll take another look!

They look like "soft porous paper".

I don't think these two were ever a pair because of the vertical design misalignment but they could have come from the same sheet.

So going through the stampsmarter tour of these it does match 183. I matched the soft porous paper by comparing it to a 1993 Columbian, both have a sort of hair like grain or weave. It has the secret mark in the upper left (i think I see it). So gonna move them to the right section. So how do you remove showgards without screwing up the paper?

Check the color before looking for secret marks.

Check the design and denomination before checking the color.

The design etc do match the 183, don't they, am I missing something? I am definitely a very inexperienced collector eager to learn more.
