So i've been sending a lot of stuff out 1st class mail. As anyone knows, it's just not worth sending low priced stuff 1st class package with tracking so regular mail it is. Thing is, most customers around the US are getting their stuff just fine in a few days but items going to various places on the east coast are, as of today, 2 weeks overdue from time of mailing, at least for my shipments.
Anyone else experiencing this? The 1st class with tracking is taking about a week and Flat Rate envelope is getting there in a few days coming from the west coast. I understand the problems with Covid and all but 2 weeks? A customer told me today he mailed a first class letter and it took a frigging MONTH for it to arrive to the receipient to get it.
Maybe I just needed to get it off my chest or hear if others are dealing with the same issue here in the states.

There has been at least one case of Covid 19 in an employee at the regional mail sorting facility here in Syracuse, I presume other workers are quarantined. This may be happening at many of the major sorting facilities. I have noticed that some of my mail lately has been slow to arrive. |

My experience is that the postal service here is holding up very well. It's incumbent on everyone receiving goods to be sensible given staffing and other pressures - doesn't mean that they will be, of course. |

My ebay purchases have been arriving in a timely fashion for the most part, but right now I'm waiting for a couple of items from domestic sellers that are about a week past their estimated delivery windows. One of these is from a seller who is notoriously slow in shipping things out, even when there isn't a pandemic to blame. Time to give them a nudge. |

Most east coast areas are getting their orders fine but NY and FL are definitely the hot spots in getting deliveries very late, at least for me. When stuff is late by a week? Ok, fine but 3+ weeks? Anyway it sounds like some are fine and some are not. At least i'm not the only one I suppose. Luckily most customers understand but there are a few who think we're all Amazon warehouses it seems. Thanks for the replies folks :) |

I have been experiencing slower delivery times in general. I think the USPS does a great job overall and I know this is a trying time so I am trying to reserve judgement.
That said, late last week I refunded a customer for a delivery sent first class envelope from CT on 3/24/20.... The customer was anxious so I assumed the envelope to be lost. Letter arrived today 4/15/20, undamaged. Note that this was through the Indianapolis center where I have had several Pre Wuhan problems. One of those was a tracked package(stiffened envelope) that took 18 days to deliver despite the promised rapid turnaround.... tracking indicated that it spent most of its time in the Indianapolis center.... pending delivery. Once I opened a case with the USPS the package was miraculously found and delivered with 2 days. I have had 2 other recent experiences with this particular center.

I have had two very slow letters from the Phoenix area to ABQ take 8 days to arrive. One was 1st class ( ebay lots) and one was Certified (auction lots). Postmarked 6 Apr, arrived 14 April. Must have even been on the same truck. 6.5 hour drive away.... |

I don't understand all this, What the dickens is happening? Australia Post had 41 million dollar profit 2019 They say 2021 will be a $400 million loss.........c'mon! They want to Close every Post Office and have deliveries, just once a week. Quote: It said the business was difficult for customers to use and predicted mass losses How can a Post Office be difficult to use In my community it possibly, is the most central focus for everyone. It's generally our "banking central" all the ATM's have been removed. I am with you Shane ! |

I imagine any slowness right now is because shipping services, including the USPS, are really swamped with mail. If you can't -- or don't -- leave the house, you have to have things sent to you. Our mail is delivered on time every day, and I haven't noticed any slowness in the mail. I think that is pretty much flat-out amazing. Tell your postal carrier how much you appreciate what they're doing. Doing what they do every day during an epidemic, going from home to home, is pretty impressive. Amazon is running a day or two slower than normal, but they say they're doing that intentionally now. But that's not the "mail". |

Frankly, going from home to home poses very little to no risk related to coronavirus. Being chased by a dog or struck by lightning or getting hit by a car or something along those lines is possible. They should be appreciated, as should all delivery workers, for providing a vital service at any time but folks are going overboard with the "hero" stuff.
The models have been laughably off and the sickness and mortality numbers look now as if they will not exceed the 2017-18 flu season overall. There will be a lot of after-action analyses finger pointing taking place as to whether or not spending trillions of government dollars and taking a torch to the economy was necssary and did it do more harm than the virus. It is strongly looking that way. There is a vulnerable portion of the population that needed to be protected by isolation. However, telling families to stay confined with each other has had unintended consequences as healthy younger folks spread the virus within their household.
And of course the issue of liberties being trampled on by politicians is no small thing. There is zero science behind many of the measures put in place. |
